Post-Natal Music Therapy

Music designed especially for post-birth can be very beneficial in relaxing both yourself and your new-born child.

Peace Baby® Post-birth features slightly up-tempo lullabies, that create a safe and secure environment for the newborn baby while simultaneously creating a tranquil environment for the mother.

Feedback in relation to Peace Baby® indicates that women feel emotions such as stress and anxiety can be passed on to a baby both in the womb and after birth. As such, a dedicated relaxation CD such as Peace Baby® is important from both a health and lifestyle perspective.
Peace Baby® was produced using a blend of traditional organic instruments, including the acoustic guitar and human voice, combined with today’s most advanced electronic instruments. The result is a collection of warm, ethereal tracks that resonate with both mother and child.

Tips for Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a stressful and daunting time for expectant mothers, but there are a number of different strategies to assist in making pregnancy an enjoyable experience.

Pre-Natal Baby Music
Listening to specially designed pre-natal music bring harmony to the environment and helps to relax and soothe the expectant mother and baby throughout pregnancy.

Yoga and Stretching
When combined with light exercise, such as walking, yoga and simple stretching can help to maintain fitness during pregnancy. Yoga has been shown to have positive effects on mood swings, food cravings, cramps, headaches, insomnia etc. but should always be done in consultation with your doctor or health care professional.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapists believe that burning essential oils can assist in balancing hormone levels and reducing stress whilst pregnant. However, you should consult with a professional aromatherapist to learn which oils are best to use during pregnancy and which scents you should avoid. They can also advise when it is best to use aromatherapy as some believe it should not be used in the first trimester.

Visualisation
Creative visualisation can help to relieve stress and fear of labor during pregnancy. Creative visualisation involves imagining a peaceful and enjoyable scene or memory, i.e. a tropical island, a snow covered mountain, in great detail as though you are watching a movie. Try to incorporate as many of the five senses as possible, i.e. What does it look and smell like? What can you hear?

Hydration
Keeping hydrated during pregnancy is essentially important.Water flushes waste from the body and helps maintain food liver and kidney function for both mother and baby. It is also necessary for increasing the mothers blood volume as the body expands.
Typically, pregnant women should drink 8-12 glasses of water a day, even more if you are exercising.

Eating Healthy for Two
It is important to gain the right level of both calorie and nutrient levels to encourage a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. Your needs can change depending on what trimester you are in so it is important to consult your doctor or health care professional on adjusting your diet for pregnancy.

Tips for Relaxing Your Baby

Many parents have diffculty with calming their distressed baby. Here are just a few tips that may help.

Music:
According to research of Dr Stephen Malloch from University of Western Sydney infants and toddlers become less irritable and less likely to cry when someone sings to them gently. Baby music also helps them maintain normal behavioural development. For more information about the 3-year research project done in collaboration with the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne click here.

Massage:
Gently massaging your baby can help them to relax, as well as assisting in stimulating the nervous system, respiration and blood circulation. Massage can also relieve muscle tension and lead to better sleep.
There are many different techniques for infant massage, but be sure to always consult your doctor before attempting them

Relax:
Make sure you’re relaxed! Your baby will sense if you are stressed or worried and will have a much harder time relaxing themselves. Take the time to sit with your baby in a quiet room and focus on your breathing. As you slowing calm yourself and forget about the days stresses your baby will notice!

Aromatherapy:
The gentle smell of aromatherapy can soothe and relax your baby. Essential oils can be used when massaging your baby, in a vaporizer or in a warm bath. Be sure to consult your doctor for infant aromatherapy recommendations as some oils can irritate your young baby.

Bath:
A simple warm bath can do wonders for calming your baby, as well as putting him/her to sleep.
